How do users choose the filler masterbatch suitable for their product?

Let’s introduce the substance that plays a key role in the masterbatch.
Its main function is the filling effect, and the material that plays a decisive role in its effect is of course the material with filling effect. The carrier resin, filler and various auxiliaries are the main three components constituting the masterbatch, wherein the filler accounts for an important component up to 90%.

The filler is mainly heavy calcium carbonate, followed by inorganic fillers such as talc, kaolin and wollastonite. It is an important technical indicator for any inorganic filler, particle size and particle size distribution. Generally, the smaller the particle size, the narrower the distribution, and the better the filling effect. In addition, the filling effect is also related to the dispersibility. The smaller the particle size, the more difficult it is to disperse and the higher the price. Purity is another important technical indicator of inorganic fillers. The less the impurity content, the higher the purity. When heavy calcium carbonate is generally used, its content and whiteness should be as high as possible, and the general requirement is above 94%.

The carrier resin: the filler masterbatch is mainly used for the processing of polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene), also known as polyolefin filler masterbatch. Generally, the carrier resin generally has a content of 10% to 20% depending on the use of the filler masterbatch. The carrier resin used to fill the masterbatch should have good compatibility with the filled plastic matrix resin. Molded products are mainly found in polyethylene hollow blow molding products, polyethylene injection molded products and polyethylene film, polypropylene woven bags, woven fabrics and packing tapes.

The additives used in the filler masterbatch are mainly dispersants and surface treatment agents. The role of the dispersant is to improve the processing fluidity of the masterbatch and to facilitate more uniform dispersion of the masterbatch in the matrix resin. The surface treatment agent can change the surface activity of the inorganic filler to convert it from hydrophilic to lipophilic to facilitate mixing with the carrier resin. Generally, when selecting the raw and auxiliary materials of the olefin-filled masterbatch, the good application performance and low cost is considered.
